RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY

Our aim is to aid in the closure of wounds that under circumstances is impossible to approximate. Usually small animal patients with injuries sustained in accidents, trauma due to fighting, bites and planned tumour resections and amputation of certain body parts become good candidates for reconstructive surgery. Most often skin and sometimes muscle flaps are harvested from different parts of the body to aid in closure of the primary skin defect. This involves multiple stages of wound management till a reconstruct can be planned. Hence this cannot be done in a single visit. Strategic planning is done before the surgery is performed. We perform general reconstruction for relatively simple wound closures. However advanced techniques are employed for reconstruction of wounds in head, face, neck, and fore and the hind limbs, chest and torso. Eyelid reconstruction is also one of our strengths. Reconstructive surgery like all other surgeries is performed under general anaesthesia.
