Like we humans, dogs and cats are also prone for diseases of the kidney! Age is not a limit for kidney diseases. Primary diseases of the kidney are of either acute or chronic types. Acute renal insults can happen because of infections, drugs, toxins or poisons. However chronic types are more insidious and take a long route before symptoms are exhibited. So it becomes mandatory to screen dogs and cats for renal compromises periodically after 5 years of age. We follow the guidelines set by “International Renal interest Society” in diagnosis, grading and treatment or management of veterinary patients with renal disease! In cases which do not respond to convention therapies, we perform either peritoneal dialysis or intermittent haemo dialysis!
