Gastro enteric disorders are the highest presented problem in small animal patients! All age groups are affected. The problem can be either simple as in the case of indigestion to something very life threatening that needs an emergency surgery like Gastric Dilation/ bloat! Gastroenterology encompasses diseases of the oral cavity, the food pipe, stomach, small & large intestines and the rectum! Diseases of the liver and the pancreas also come under this gambit. The patients with GI affections may need hospitalization to be intensively monitoring while under treatment as in cases such a Parvo Viral enteritis, severe pancreatitis andespecially after gastroenteric surgery! Foreign body causing intestinal obstruction is one of the common surgical diseases, seen in puppies less than 9 months of age.
